The Bluefin – A Cruzan Rum Cocktail
Categories: Cocktails
We got smashed on a few occasions trying some of the less stellar test recipes.
Rum Rule #1: Coconut rum can make any drink taste like the Caribbean. Let’s face it, you can take average ingredients, possess no knowledge of making a true island drink and still produce some grog that suggest a white beach, blue water and small bikini. It is with this low bar that I challenged my buddy John to create a drink we could name after his 45 foot Jeanneau, Bluefin.
The first step in this cocktail was to make it blue. John kept going to blue curacao. Bad idea I told him, not creative enough. Truth be told, he had been trying to come up with a drink in honor of new sailboat for over a year. We got smashed on a few occasions trying some of his less stellar test recipes. When I decided to put two models in my blue bikinis for a cocktail video I made a command decision and finished the recipe for him.
John is a tequila guy. Patron to be specific. He’s a former SEAL officer (the same one that sent me the Osama bin Laden Shot). This drink had to be strong for him but sweet for the ladies wearing my suits. Working from the Rum Rule #1 I pulled out the Cruzan Coconut, and the Patron. I decided we needed some Barbados white so we also added Tommy Bahama White Sands. Now what to make it blue? How about Izze Blueberry Soda? YES! Bingo. Please refer back to Rum Rule #1.
- 1 Part Cruzan Coconut Rum
- 1 Part Tommy Bahama White Sands Rum
- 1 Part Patron Silve
- Shake and pour over ice
- Izze Blueberry Soda as topper
- Fresh blueberries on top.
Check out the video and try this drink. It really is good even while invoking the rules.

Great video! Sounds like a pretty good drink as well, although I didn’t see any drink mixing at all in the video. Huh, guess I was distracted or something.
Cheers!
To be upfront Ryan, this was my favorite video I have ever done. Go figure!
Sounds like a fun and interesting drink. However to match up with the Patron..yummm…how about replacing the TB white sands with the new and much chatted about Siesta Key?
Cheers!!
Interesting idea. I just came from Siesta Key Rum. I’ll be doing an upcoming video of them instead of writing an article. I’m not sure if it would marry well but I would be willing to try!
Great looking drink. when you serving them at Rover Run?
