Let’s get this party started!

Well it is official, at least in our hemisphere anyway. For us salty souls, sun worshipers, beach goers, and lovers of warm weather; it’s the most wonderful time of the year! That’s right friends, today is the first official day of summer! I’ll give you a moment to celebrate…

….Alright then!

Now, today is also the summer solstice!! The summer solstice is a magical time of the year when the axial tilt of the earth’s semi-axis (for this hemisphere) is most inclined towards the Sun; so the sun is at its highest point. Also, today has the most hours of daylight out of the year! Seems like cause for celebration to me!!!

And celebrate they do! This day doesn’t go unrecognized outside of us summer loving folk. Some cultures see it as a high time for fertility, and it is even celebrated as a holiday in some places. Even here in the US some cultures, who refer to it as midsummer, celebrate this day. Most of the US celebrations are based around immigrant populations from Europe; but I think it’s time this is made a national holiday!!! Even if only unofficially.

So let’s start this celebration and keep it going until winter creeps back in!!! So grab your beach bags, picnic gear, and BBQ grill and head to the beach, lake side, river, or pool and soak up every bit of that sun to charge your batteries for what I think is going to be an amazing summer!!!
