Drinking 50 Rums and Surviving
Categories: Photography
Good thing my camera had autofocus. After 30 rums everything was blurry!
A few weeks back I had the opportunity to attend the Miami Rum Renaissance Festival. I did not write about it right away because I knew the more knowledgeable guys like Mike from the Rumconnection.com were going to have far more insightful things to say about the event than myself. After all I’m no judge, just a power user. Still, I wanted to share a little of the event with you so I decided to compile some of my better shots and do a photo essay.
I shot these images using a Leica D-LUX 4, shooting RAW. Since I was inside and don’t like flash I relied on ISO 400 and f-stop of around 2.0. My shutter was slow but I’m not bad at hand holding slower speeds. I really like the result.
The hardest part of the festival was the desire to drink everything. Even with the small tasting cups you see in the following pictures, you can get pretty hammered pretty fast. Pacing yourself as well as not drinking the entire cup is essential. It was a fun challenge. I did survive!

That my friend is a lot of rum to sample. Looks like a lot of fun though. Up here in the northwest the thing to sample is beer. Lots and lots of beer.
Cliff. I hear you. I’ve been known to do the same with beer. I’ve worked a few beer festivals. I approached the rum like a beer festival and quickly learned it’s a bigger and more serious game! Cheers.
If there is a 2012 tasting, I will be there!! Looks like so much fun on so many levels. Am thinking a room in the host hotel is a must! Thanks for sharing and power users have an opinion too…What was your favorite?
Rob there most certainly will be next year. Even better is the Rum Cruise in November. Promises to be amazing. Staying in the hotel is a must and they gave us a good rate. My favorite white was Siesta Key. My favorite dark was Atlantico. Spice was Dzama (Madagascar). Black was Cruzan Black Strap. At least for now. I have a bottle of Ron de Jeremy on the way. Promises to be stiff drink. LOL.
